How to cook Meat Rendang

 After I previously made an article about Rendang, This time I will make an article about how to cook Rendang that is good and true.

  Rendang is a meat dish with spicy flavor that is processed using a mixture of various herbs and spices. To produce meat rendang, the cooking process is needed by repeatedly heating it using coconut milk. It takes hours (approximately 4 hours) to complete the cooking process, which is until the meat and marinade become dry and pitch black. Rendang cuisine can hold up to weeks (at room temperature).
  You can buy meat rendang in Padang restaurants throughout the world. This dish is famous and popular in Indonesia even in other Southeast Asian countries, namely: Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines and Thailand. In the Minangkabau area (the area of origin of this cuisine), rendang is served in various traditional ceremonies and special events. Rendang is indeed a traditional dish from Minangkabau, but each region in Minangkabau has a recipe for meat rendang, cooking techniques and also the use and selection of ingredients that are not the same.

This Rendang dish has been named as the first place on the list of World's 50 Most Delicious Foods (CNN International's World's Deliciousest Dishes), precisely in 2011.

 Now we will start cooking Rendang.

Examples of ways to cook beef Rendang

The main ingredients for making meat rendang are as follows:

  • 2 liters of coconut milk (produced from 2 old coconuts)
  • 1.5 kg of meat

Ingredients for spices and herbs to make meat rendang:

  • 2 turmeric leaves, conclude
  • 4 leaves of kaffir lime
  • 2 cm candis (gelugur)
  • 2 stalks of lemongrass leaves, beat until they break

Meat Rendang seasoning ingredients,


  • 12 shallots
  • 2 cm of ginger, broiled
  • 1 teaspoon cumin, roasted
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • Flavor taste
  • 100 g of big red chili
  • 3 cm of turmeric, roasted
  • 1/2 tbsp coriander
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 5 pecan nuts
  • 100 g of curly red chili
  • 2 cm galangal

Here's a recipe for how to make special meat rendang:

  1. We used the prepared meat first: cut into pieces of rendang in boxes (dice) or according to the size you want.
  2. It is better not to cut the meat with a size that is too small, so that when the meat is cooked, it does not make the meat crumble.
  3. Prepare a large pan. Pour coconut milk into it.
  4. Add lemongrass, sliced shallots, tamarind and turmeric leaves.
  5. Stir the spices until they are really boiling, making sure that the coconut milk being cooked does not break.
  6. During this process you should stir the coconut milk slowly and until it is completely boiling and evenly distributed.
  7. If the coconut milk has boiled, enter the mashed spices in it slowly and occasionally stir it. Do it for 20-30 minutes.
  8. If the coconut milk looks oily, add the cutang meat that has been cleaned.
  9. Set the stove flame using low or medium heat, then cook until the coconut milk thickens and dries and also the spices soak into the pores of the flesh.
  10. Continue cooking until the meat becomes tender and cooked evenly, patiently and diligently to stir slowly and continuously so that the bottom doesn't burn and the meat is cooked perfectly.
It's easy, right.? Apparently cooking meat rendang is quite easy and simple, you can also practice it at home.
